Midface Lift

Midface Lift

With age, the soft tissues of the cheeks descend. The cheek loses its fullness, the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek becomes longer and hollower, and the nasolabial folds deepen.

A midface lift repositions these tissues upward, restoring a youthful cheek contour and a smoother lid–cheek junction, with a natural result.

What is a midface lift?

A midface lift lifts the cheek fat pad and the surrounding soft tissues back towards their original position. It can be performed on its own, through access in the lower eyelid or the temple, or as part of a deep plane facelift, which treats the midface, jawline and neck together.

  • Flattened or descended cheeks
  • Hollows below the lower eyelids
  • A long, visible lid–cheek junction
  • Deepened nasolabial folds

Individual assessment

A careful analysis determines whether a midface lift alone, a combination with lower eyelid surgery, or a full deep plane face and neck lift will give the most harmonious result. Where appropriate, volume can also be restored with fat grafting.

Recovery

  • Swelling and bruising are most noticeable in the first one to two weeks
  • Many patients feel comfortable in public after about two to three weeks
  • Strenuous activity is avoided for several weeks
  • The final result settles over a few months

Risks and limitations

Possible risks include bleeding, infection, temporary asymmetry, changes in sensation and, depending on the approach, changes in lower eyelid position. Results vary between individuals. Every risk is explained before surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a midface lift and a facelift?

A midface lift focuses on the cheeks and the lid–cheek junction. A deep plane facelift treats the midface, jawline and neck together. The right choice depends on where the changes are.

Can fillers achieve the same result?

Fillers can restore some volume, but they cannot lift descended tissues. For moderate or significant descent, surgical repositioning usually gives a more natural and lasting result.

Is the result natural?

Yes. Because the tissues are repositioned rather than pulled, the cheeks look fuller and more youthful without an operated appearance.

Can it be combined with eyelid surgery?

Yes. A midface lift is often combined with lower eyelid surgery to smooth the lid–cheek junction.
